Human Milk Bank
Human milk, often referred to as “liquid gold,” is a vital source of nutrients and energy crucial for the optimal growth and development of newborn babies. For preterm neonates, human milk plays a crucial role in improving outcomes, as it contains immunoglobulins and anti-infective factors that have been proven to reduce infections and necrotizing enterocolitis, which are major causes of mortality.
Bridging the Gap: Meeting Demand with Donor Milk
There is a significant gap between the demand and supply of mother’s milk, especially for preterm infants. Many mothers struggle to breastfeed due to medical and postoperative surgical conditions.
Our Contribution
At Prashanthi Hospital, we have a fully operational Human Milk Bank, serving as a lifeline for many newborns. With a maximum storage capacity of 40 liters, our milk bank has dispensed approximately 2325 bottles of donor milk since its inception one year ago. This initiative has significantly improved outcomes for preterm babies by providing them with the vital nutrition they need.
How You Can Help
Your support can make a significant difference in the lives of newborns. Consider donating your excess breast milk to our milk bank and help us in our mission to provide every baby with the best start in life.
